Young Invincibles released 50 report cards evaluating each state’s investment in higher education. The report cards evaluate states on a variety of factors, including tuition costs, spending per student, burden on families, state aid to students, and the proportion of state budget funding allocated towards higher education funding. California receives mixed grades as tuition at California colleges and universities ranks second worst in the nation and has doubled in the past five years, in part because state budget support for higher education has dropped by double digits. The good news is California’s need-based aid per student ranks fourth highest in America.
