California faces a serious shortfall in its supply of college-educated workers. Improving access to higher education and boosting the educational attainment of young adults will enhance economic growth throughout the state. Without concerted efforts to improve college attendance and graduation rates, California’s economic future will be much less bright. This publication on higher education provides a good overview of the current state of higher education in California and offers several recommendations. This paper is part of a larger briefing kit that highlights our state’s most pressing long-term policy challenges.
